Parasites

Hilary can test to see which parasites may be affecting you.

Parasites in human bodies occur by intrusion in which they primarily live off the nutrients and cells of the host – i.e. the person affected by it. Through asexual methods of reproduction or by simply laying eggs, the number of these microscopic parasites multiplies at rapid spreading rates.

The behaviour of these parasites inside the host’s body can be severe. The process of parasite feeding basically deals with a draining of the most essential nutrients along the tissues and organs of the host. This may result in a severe deficit of the required energy needed for the affected parts to function normally. The parasites’ excretion results in severe toxic effects throughout the host’s body.

It is estimated that more than 85 percent of the world adult population is affected by parasites. The worst part is that very few come to know of it. Although believed to be chiefly a Third World problem, American surveys have shown that one in six of people chosen at random were tested to have been affected by at least one parasite.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis of a parasite intrusion can be difficult as doctors usually are deviated to think that the disease may be a more familiar disease, owing to the similar symptoms caused by parasite feeding. For example, symptoms of ulcerative colitis are found to be similar to those of amoebic colitis, leading doctors to believe the more frequent ulcerative colitis. The rapid spread of the parasite count also makes diagnosis difficult and complicated.

Who are prone to parasite infection?

  • Frequent international travellers
  • Users of a contaminated water supply
  • Careless pet lovers
  • Bingers
  • Sex workers

The four possible entry paths of a parasite are –

  • Food/water
  • Mosquitoes and other vectors
  • Sexual intercourse
  • Nose and skin

The symptoms of parasite infection are usually chronic fatigue, stools with excess fat, arthritis, stiff weight stagnations after abnormal changes and mild diarrhoea.

The treatments of parasitic infection are carried out with the following medicines depending on the parasite:

  • For cyclospora - trimethoprim-sulfametoxazol
  • For Entamoeba hystolytica – metronidazole / tinidazole
  • For giardia and cryptosporidiummetronidazole

The video's below are not for the squeamish.
