Intolerance is an unusual form of physical disorder. It is borne out of a lack of ability to consume, or resist. It can also be defined as the incapacity to soak up the nutrients required by the body. In this situation the body fails to metabolize the nutrients.
Drug Intolerance
This lack of resistance also applies to medication where a patient suffering from intolerances would not be able to enjoy smooth metabolism which may jeopardize the effects of the medicine. Such inability to continue medication because of being hit by its negative effects is known as drug intolerance. A patient as a result responds to a regular drug dosage as an overdose physically. This occurs simply because of a shortage of desired metabolism in the body which does not allow the body to absorb nutrients and medication.
Allergy and Intolerance
Allergy and intolerance are two different physical reactions with different causes and symptoms. In the case of allergies, the body experiences an alien object inside the body and combats it by means of its innate immune system. During the process, symptoms like rashes, feeling sick or dizzy are common.
Contrary to this intolerance to drugs or food, or any other agent is caused because the body is incapable of producing the required enzymes or is not being able to function in terms of its metabolism rate. This creates a lack of ability in a body to withstand the effects of medicines and thus the body becomes subject to adverse effects of medicines.
Common Examples of Drug Intolerances
In case of drug intolerance, normal doses of drugs act as overdoses causing intolerance.
Some common examples of drug intolerances are as follows:
- Liver breakdown: Liver malfunction or liver breakdown is a very common and dangerous drug intolerance effect. Liver failure is caused by normal doses of acetaminophen. The effect is very scary and often multiplies causing kidney failure.
- Tinnitus: It is a symptom that makes a human ear imagines sounds that do not exist in reality. It can be caused by normal doses of aspirin.
- Poisoning: This can poison a new born baby and is caused because of a normal use of codeine by the mother. It can have fatal effects.
