Food Intolerances Fructose Intolerance

Fructose intolerance is also known as fructose mal absorption. This is a digestive disorder. Your body consists of deficient fructose carriers, which have lesser fructose absorption capabilities. The intestine carries in your whole digestive tract an excessive concentration of fructose. HFI or Hereditary Fructose Intolerance is an unusual genetic disorder. This is an enzyme deficiency in your system of Adlase B, which converts from fructose to 1-phosphate to glucose. This process of conversion happens only partially. This is a simple sugar conversion found in honey and fruits, with the chemical formula name known as C6H1206.

Fructose intolerance is mostly seen in Central Europe with statistics showing up to 40% of cases with this condition. Many people experience similar symptoms of fructose intolerance, but in reality suffer from irritable bowel syndrome. Another group of patients suffer from both fructose intolerance, mal absorption and lactose intolerance, which results in coeliac disease.

There are a number of symptoms which results in fructose intolerance such as diarrhoea, bloating, constipation, flatulence, mild stomach pain, chronic stomach pain, vomiting and mental depression. However, medical symptoms can be limited to hypoglycaemia and chronic abdominal pain. Intake of fructose and sugar related forms, metabolise into fructose-1 phosphate. Patients in dire need of wanting to avoid such symptoms can resort to fructose free dietary plan.

In the case of hereditary fructose intolerance becoming severe, the continuity of liver disease is hard to be avoided. This takes place even though you may refrain from consuming sucrose and fructose as part of your diet. The symptoms in this case go much further. For an infant with such a condition will display symptoms such as, irritability, convulsions, neonatal jaundice, excessive sleeping, and vomiting, extended liver and fruit intolerance.

For those with fructose intolerance and mal absorption, you can control this condition with changes to your diet. Here is what you will need to avoid:

  • Consuming large portions of food with fructose.
  • Including more than 0.5 grams of glucose in beverages per 100 kg.
  • Refraining from consuming food with glucose and fructose ratio.
  • Avoiding food with rich fructans and fermentable oligosaccharides
  • Avoiding syrup and honey with high fructose.

Favourable foods to include in your dietary plans can be kiwi fruit, passion fruit, tomato and pineapple.
